Health & Energy

We are surrounded by such beautiful mountains here in San Bernardino, but sadly we oftentimes can’t enjoy or see them due to heavy pollution in the form of smog that directly correlates to the indiscriminate goods movement. The reality of our area is that our children are now being born with childhood asthma and suffering from other respiratory conditions at a rate we’ve never seen. This is directly related to the historic irresponsibility of the goods movement and the placement of warehouses (logistics centers) in and around our homes, schools, churches, and parks. The last four years have been proof that we don’t have to allow this anymore! We’ve challenged the status quo by proposing a warehouse moratorium twice, (failed by one vote) increasing our development standards on facilities that already exist, and keeping our attorney general intimately aware of bad development practices here in the city of San Bernardino.

We’ve begun historic investments in our neighborhoods by increasing our parks and recreation budget by $5 million and I’m here to tell you that’s only the beginning! The future is brighter, healthier, and people-centered! We’ve championed and supproted energy-efficient programs for not only our city’s vehicle fleet (totally electric by 2035) but also through the development of high speed rail connecting San Bernardino to Redlands. Next is the implementation of green warehousing through retrofitting of the big boxes we already have in our city! Remember when we ran on getting all of our neighborhoods in the 5th ward full of Solar and LED lighting? We did that, and it’s only the beginning.

We will save millions long-term through these investments in LED lighting, solar power, and wind power. Imagine how much energy we will gain from the Santa Ana winds alone; this is about efficiency. We will improve air quality, energy consumption, and lower the city bill all at once!
