Education & Our Youth

Our city and school district collaboration is key. Together we have established our youth council to increase civic engagement and awareness amongst the San Bernardino City Unified School District and our city government. We are one city, it was time began acting like it.

I have worked with our students, teachers, principals, and superintendent to advocate for and support real career pathways and workforce development in partnership with our k-12 schools, community colleges, universities, local businesses, and labor apprenticeship programs here in the city of San Bernardino so that residents can learn, live, and retire here.

I championed the very first Entrepreneurial Resource Center with Cal State San Bernardino which will be hosted right here in downtown SB! I meet monthly with our superintendent to collaborate in any and every way possible to ensure our youth not only know we care, but see the support from their Councilman Ben Reynoso.

We’ve worked vigorously with our school district to ensure safety is a top priority through the little things like the creation of stop lights and crosswalks at our schools here in the 5th ward and beyond. We have worked to make sure that students we educate here in San Bernardino who wish to be teachers know of all of the current incentives available to come back and become educators here in the city of San Bernardino. We’ve done this through consistent partnerships with all of our educational facilities. We can grow our own and keep our own so we must continue to encourage that!

There are major incentives currently in place that are now being publicized through my office such as loan forgiveness for those who learn here and agree to teach here. We live in an economy that is seeing a consistent rise in student loan debt without forgiveness; SBCUSD has taken it a step further with their incentives but it’s on us to continue to publicize what’s out there for our people; unified efforts are the key to a better tomorrow, and they always have been.
